An appraisal for valuation, not ego
By: Will Gorges

An appraisal is supposed to be an estimate of fair market anticipated value of an item. Just because the local gun shop tells you your antique pistol is worth $10,000 does not make it so. It is worth $10,000 if he offers to pay you that amount, then and there. Nothing has worth until money changes hands, and opinions are, well, opinions. You should also note that a price listed in a published "guide" is likewise almost meaningless--it can never be current, and you cannot sell to or buy from a book.
